Laval won again last night. 4-3 over the Comets. Roy with a goal. Dobes with 27 saves. I am really hoping Pascal Vincent from his brief NHL coaching career, gives Laval some strong corrections and development opportunities. If our prospect pool i a s good as many project, Laval should be making the playoffs easily in their division I'm skeptical that our prospect pool is as good as some lists/pundits say it is. We'd be led to believe we have this impending influx of top-six forwards and top-four D. I'm not even sure to what degree having an excellent prospect pool translates to something like "How many players do we expect to make the NHL and play meaningful minutes?" Surely Demidov will make the NHL and likely be an impact player. IMO, Joshua Roy should be in the NHL. I'm hopeful David Reinbacher makes it in a few years and is a top-4 D. Adam Engstrom? Owen Beck? Jacob Fowler?

ABB looking elite in the AHL. he didnt look terrible in the NHL tbh but i doubt we get him up here full time. its interesting how some players are getting time (Heineman, Kapanen, Condota getting called up etc) while others (ABB, Roy, Mesar) staying in the minors - presumably to work on certain aspects of their games. Demidov up to 16 points in 20 games despite averaging around 12 minutes a game & some games as low as 3 or 4 minutes for the whole game. Dude is too good to be benched!! (for those wondering, he's being benched for not signing another contract with the KHL, not because of his play, obviously)

Pretty impressive numbers, especially for a rookie. Imagine we would've taken Michkov instead of Reinbacher...

Maybe I am wrong.

Another 4-3 win for Laval over Utica last night. Connor Hughes with 31 saves. Joshua Roy 1g 1a. ABB 3a. Luke Tuch 2g. its interesting how some players are getting time (Heineman, Kapanen, Condota getting called up etc) while others (ABB, Roy, Mesar) staying in the minors - presumably to work on certain aspects of their games. I think it's mostly pretty logical:
ABB is 27, he's not a prospect, he's the classic "great AHLer, borderline NHLer". Good guy to have around - helps your AHL team win and a good mentor for young prospects while also being a decent depth option if you have injuries or whatever. This is what he was signed for.
Mesar is nowhere near ready for the NHL - he couldn't even consistently excel in the OHL the last two seasons. He's no longer considered a first-round-quality prospect (e.g. Pronman's recent redraft went 3 and a half rounds and didn't touch him) and while I'm sure the team hasn't totally written him off, I'd be surprised if we see him in Montreal this season.
Heineman and Kapanen both had solid camps that showed them playing an NHL-ready game. For Kapanen, minors isn't even an option (and I suspect he'll be sent back to SHL at some point), while Heineman has already spent a season there.
Condota was just an insurance call-up in case Anderson couldn't play: given they would most likely just be sitting in the press-box for a game, it made sense to recall an AHL journeyman rather than a prospect (Condotta, Gignac, or ABB being main three candidates).
Roy was the one surprise: I think it was more about sending a message than anything else (I got the sense the team wasn't thrilled with his preparedness or effort level in camp) and I expect he'll be recalled soon to play in the top-six.
Other players I wouldn't be shocked to see in Montreal this season at some point are Beck and Tuch (in bottom-six roles) although I don't think the team is in any rush and would like to see them get more time in Laval.

Mesar š Iād be surprised if we see him in Montreal ā¦..ever . Former first round pick plus decent AHL stats will probably get him a shot at some point, but I'd be surprised if he sticks.
It's probably best to think of him like a high-ceiling 5th rounder at this point: there's some real skill but a bit of a long-shot to put it all together and reach that ceiling. His size and style of play also means he probably needs to be good enough to find a spot in the top-six, I can't see him sticking around in a bottom-six role.

^^ There were some rumors floating around that Kapanen would be allowed to go to the AHL after spending a certain amount of time on the NHL roster (maybe 60 days or something like that)... so it makes you wonder if he maybe goes down to the AHL once Laine is back. Or maybe he gets flipped down with Beck coming back up. I actually didn't know if the interpretation of that allowance to send him down was right though. It sounded like there was the option to move him down after a certain number of days on an NHL roster, but it wasn't clear from the wording that it still didn't require permission from either the player or his European club. So I can't validate that, but just to say that there may be some kind of an out to be able to have him play in the AHL in the future.
