Interesting that Ovechkin starts the season without a goal in his first 3 games (and doesnt record a shot on goal in 2 consecutive games - thats the first he's ever done that in his NHL career).
He's 38. Of note is that he needs 72 goals to catch Gretzy's record. A year or two ago that seemed like a forgone conclusion but it will be interesting to see how this year pans out.
Last year he had 42 and i think if he can score at at least 30 goals per season still, he will get his shot (assuming he stays healthy) but at 38 you never know. Washington didnt do him any favours by dumping some vets in the last little bit.

If the Caps don't move on from Moe Mantha and replace him with a top 6 player, Ovy will start to feel his age, as he will have to work harder just to get a shot on goal. Not like when he was young, and he could do it all on his own.

The Carolina Hurricanes have recalled goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov from the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. (AHL) Because.......Carolina Hurricanes goalie Frederik Andersen took a shot off the mask in the first period of their 6-3 win against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center in San Jose on Tuesday. Andersen left a 1-1 game at 5:27 after being struck by Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro’s wrist shot from the point that was deflected in front. It was the second shot Andersen faced.

Curious to see what the Sens do with the 40 day clock ticking to sign RFA Shane Pinto. Trying to clear cap space Sens GM Dorion at last report have only $63K and Pinto is expected to get a 2 year bridge deal around $2.5M. Very unlikely the Habs are in on this deal re; our glut of forward wingers despite LTIR cap room. Dorion shopping Mathieu Joseph, or Domanik Kubalik (I doubt Erik Brannstrom). I suspect they will have to package a draft pick as their prospect pool, that are not on the roster is weak. Could set a bar for cap room deals.

Maybe it's nothing....... Michkov, 18, is tearing up the KHL right now. Since being loaned to Sochi after dressing for just one game with SKA St. Petersburg, Michkov has recorded 14 points in 14 games and was just voted into the KHL All-Star game. According to EliteProspects.com, Michkov currently has the highest single-season point-per-game output of any U-20 KHL skater (minimum 10 games) since the 2008-09 season.

Anze Kopitar skated in his 1,297th game. Ah. What could have been. I still would have taken Price. He was the best player in the world for a short stretch and if not for injuries would still be an elite 'tender imho.

Robby Fabbri‘s history of bad luck with injuries added a new chapter when Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde announced Friday that Fabbri will be out a month with his lower body injury. Fabbri was injured in Detroit’s season opener, and has missed the team’s past three games. Lalonde originally believed Fabbri would be out only a game or two.
