The NHLβs 32 clubs have voted to adopt a new decentralized format for the annual Entry Draft that will do away with having a single host city for the event, according to a memo sent out by the league on Wednesday. The new format would see the NHL move in line with the NBA, NFL, and MLB, with each of the 32 teams conducting business remotely from its own war room. Kind of takes away the celebratory festivities from the draft picks not to mention the marketing benefits of the host city. Obviously a money saving decision. Why would they care about the benefits to a hosting city? All 32 teams voted for it so obviously they only care about their bottom line.

In a recent breaking announcement from the Nottingham Panthers of the Elite Ice Hockey League, an emergency evacuation was required, resulting in the cancellation of today's game. The cause of this unsettling situation was a serious injury to former Pittsburgh Penguins forward, Adam Johnson, during the game. Fans in attendance at the Sheffield Arena were swiftly ushered out due to the distressing incident on the ice.
The team has labeled the event as a "significant medical emergency," which transpired when Johnson sustained a severe neck injury from a skate blade, leading to profuse bleeding. Fortunately, medical personnel were on-site, doing their utmost to provide Johnson with the necessary assistance to potentially save his life. Adam Johnson's hockey journey began as an undrafted prospect from the University of Minnesota Duluth before he joined the Pittsburgh Penguins' American Hockey League affiliate, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He managed to make 13 NHL appearances for the Penguins, contributing a goal and three assists for a total of four career points in the NHL. Let's hope he is going to be OK. This could happen at any level.
