ππ€¦ββοΈπ€£π€¦ββοΈππ€¦ββοΈπ€£ San Jose beat Edmonton last night 3 - 2 Oiler team sure looks like they've quit on their coach. I hear Babcock is available. Skinner faced 18 shots and 3 went in - coach or goalie , chicken or egg ?

In all seriousness, I think we've reached the breaking point in Edmonton. It's still early enough that they can save their season, but they'll need to go on a roll soon, and they can't afford to wait another 10 games to make a move. So either they're going to fire their coach or they're going to trade for a goalie. The Oilers play tomorrow in Seattle and then come home Monday. So if they don't do anything today, firing your coach before you come home is also a popular move. Give the fans something to feel motivated about.
I wouldn't be surprised if a coaching change is the first thing they go for because it's the easiest move. I also wonder if Dan Bylsma's name might not be on the table to step in. He has ties to Holland from Detroit, he's a veteran, and he's having a lot of success in the AHL right now.
Past that, I still believe the Oilers would pay handsomely for Montembeault. I know everyone here wants to trade Allen, but I still have my doubts about Monty being the goalie of the future here and I think right now his trade value is higher because his salary is so low. With the Oilers being in cap trouble, that's a deal they can make without having to find someone to take Campbell of their hands. I think if you can get an unprotected 2024 1st rounder (with a shot the Oil miss the playoffs), that's a great start...

I think Edmonton need to change coaches and get a goalie! I agree I think Monty's value is higher I suppose it will depend on what Edmonton want either a longer term goalie or a short term more seasoned guy like Allen. Edmonton is in win now mode and they may like the idea of a more stable guy like Allen who knows? they may also want to do some kind of multi player deal perhaps they would want to shore up their D as well? if they have what we need this could be a really good fit for us to make some meaningful moves.

Agree on your insight. We do have a tendency to overvalue our players though, so I don't believe Monty is worth an unprotected 1st rounder. For certain Monty has the best body of work performance of the $1M goalies out there in availability, but he is UFA at the end of this year, with no guarantee that he re-signs with us. He would certainly seem to merit some sort of increase up to the $2M or more mark depending on performance this year. It would seem in our best interests to trade Monty now. I would be happy if HuGo got any one of a) Dylan Holloway who despite some hand injury issues hasn't really developed properly and might be able to play centre b) Xavier Bourgault - possible Centre c) Edmonton's 2nd round pick - 2024 d) Beau Akey - RHD who from previous draft input you liked and is doing fine with Barrie Colts in the OHL. I am not so enamoured with Raphael Lavoie - big Center heralded in his draft year, strikes me as a cherry picker / floater. Now by all reports Blackwood stole the win for San Jose last night stopping 39 Oiler shots of 41.

Now by all reports Blackwood stole the win for San Jose last night stopping 39 Oiler shots of 41. I don't think Monty is a better goalie than Saros or Hart by any means. But I think when you look at the Oilers cap situation and the fact they still have 4+M buried in the minors in Campbell, the fact that Monty is a potential starting goalie for them at 1M a year has to mean something. If he were making Allen's salary of 3-4M a year, then I don't think you'd get a 1st rounder back. But how many starting goalies are available to the Oilers for 1M? I think his low cap hit combined with the fact the Oilers are in a real pickle with Campbell buried as well as being up against the clock to find a starting goalie mid-season in McDavid/Draisaitl's peak years means they have to be willing to sacrifice the future to make something happen. Otherwise the season is a write-off for them. And ultimately, they have a path to the Cup finals if they can get into the playoffs. SJ, Ana, and Cal are really weak competition this year. Seattle is iffy. Vancouver is a question mark as to whether they'll be able to maintain their current level of play. And Vegas may get tired as the season progresses after their short summer. I think there's wiggle room there if they act now.

Just read that if Connor brown of the oilers plays his 10th nhl game in his contract, the oilers are hit with a $3.225m bonus cap hit. It can carryover to next season. What a tire fire! Connor Brown could be next on the waiver wire as heβs got 0 points in 9 games

Samuel Fagemo is once again a member of the Kings. Los Angeles has claimed the winger off waivers from Nashville. Back in training camp, the Predators had claimed him off waivers from the Kings.

Quite interested to see if Conor Brown plays for the Oilers vs Seattle tonight. That carryover bonus has big implications

Brown has no points, a minus-5 rating, 13 shots and seven hits in nine contests this season. He was last in the lineup Nov. 2 but did describe himself as day-to-day Thursday, so Brown might still be an option Monday versus the Islanders. I think he was listed as day to day.

Artturi Lehkonen was helped off the ice in Thursday nightβs game against the Seattle Kraken. His collision with Kraken defenceman Jamie Oleksiak resulted in Lehkonen falling headfirst into the boards. Avalanche coach Jared Bednar thought the hit was clean at the time and still does. βI donβt think itβs a penalty,β Bednar said of the play. βI just think itβs the ice that theyβre sort of making contact in there, and just the way he goes in, loses his footing and goes in headfirst.β Itβs difficult to win a shoving match with the 6β7β³ Oleksiak, especially for a sub-six-foot player like Lehkonen. Lehkonen was fully alert and responsive when he was guided from the ice, and it was confirmed that the injury is not to his head. Beyond that, the injury is only described as βupper body.β Scary. One of my favourite players. Get well soon Lehky!

The most common approach to determine how the average player ages is generally done through constructing an βaging curveβ that shows how player performance changes from one age to the next. Most aging curves are constructed using the delta method, which appears to have been originally proposed by Tom Tango here. This shows the average change in any given variable (WAR in our case) from age to age and βchainsβ that average change together to get an aging curve. This is the basic description. The simplest way to approach this is by taking each playerβs respective change year-over-year in Overall WAR, totaling that change for each βage bucketβ (18-19, 25-26, etc.), and then calculating the average for each age bucket. We can convert the average change per age into a cumulative change and adjust the peak to 0 β this is how we visualize the aging curve. hockeygraphsdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/basic-chart.pngInteresting analysis. Here is the cumulative difference represented in graphical form. The βYear IIβ age for the age label (the average change from 22-23 is labeled as 23, for instance): hockeygraphsdotcom.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/war-basic-chart.pngI would definitely be paying close attention to these stats. At least when it comes to new contracts.
