The Capitals are set to welcome back one of their offseason acquisitions as they announced that they have activated defenseman Joel Edmundson off long-term injured reserve. The previously reported activations of Anthony Mantha and Trevor van Riemsdyk were also confirmed. In a corresponding move, Dylan McIlrath has been assigned to AHL Hershey.

Blues blanked Tampa 5-0 last night. The lack of a quality goaltender must be killing Cooper and that lineup. Unfortunately Tampa has little in terms of assets to trade - having no prospect or draft pick depth is a quality issue. I’m uncertain whether they sign Stamkos next year. Looking like they have to outscore other teams to win but they can't all the time. Their GAA is 3.6 while their GF/G is 3.5. Yeah. they miss Andrei Vasilevskiy!

Columbus Blue Jackets forward Patrik Laine was a healthy scratch when they played the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday evening. I think I'd be inquiring.............

On Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia Flyers placed goaltender Felix Sandstrom on waivers. The 26-year-old will be a free agent after the 2023-24 season and carries a cap hit of $775,000, .

Calvin Pickard’s last NHL start before Monday night in Florida for the Edmonton Oilers was close to two years ago in Pittsburgh (Jan. 28, 2022) when the much-travelled goalie stunned the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 3-2 shootout win for Detroit. Will lightening strike twice? I hope not.

Will lightening strike twice? I hope not. Connor Brown plays his 11th game tonight vs Panthers. His $3m bonus kicks in - that overage will hit the Oilers cap next year. IMO the Oilers will be in even bigger trouble for a roster shakeup. I can’t see how GM Holland survives after this gaffe (Brown is pointless in 10 games), and the miss on Campbell. Holland is in Bergevin mode - will or should make some desperate moves! Wasting McDavid , Nurse, Draitsatl etc

For sure Holland has created a mess in Edmonton. Here's hoping HUGO can take advantage of that somehow.

I wonder if the kings regret the PLD trade. I know its early (only 17 games into his tenure) but 5g 4a in 17 games for $8.5m per year for the next 8 years...
He's always been one of those guys who makes you think he could be elite but always seems to fall a little short.
I think we dodged a bullet there tbh. Vilardi has been injured most of the season but Iafallo has looked better than PLD so far. Kupari was always a throw in.

I dunno, maybe. He is what he is, a ~60 point C with good size. I doubt we'll see him putting it all together consistently, but what he brings is still very valuable. Not sure it's worth $8.5M for 8 years but that was his price. The timing wasn't perfect for us and I don't think we were really willing/able to go beyond what LA ended up trading for him, but I think Dubois would have been a great fit here. A core of Suzuki/Dubois/Dach/Caufield to build around plus guys like Monahan, Anderson, or Slafkovsky... looks pretty good to me.

I think PLD is a 60-pont guy. $8.5M in today's NHL seems reasonable for that (I guess). We're not paying Suzuki much less and he's probably a 65-point per season guy over the course of the next 4-5 seasons. Maybe Suzuki reaches 70-80 points, but... It's not a certainty.

I suppose you're right - $8.5m seems like it should be a PPG guy though. I dont see PLD hitting that, while i think nick has the ability to do that if he can play a whole season without losing all his linemates. I think the other thing is what LA gave up for PLD. If they had signed him as a free agent, so be it but two quality players for him... i think this one wont age well but we shall see.
