Edmonton getting kicked around in goal by Carolina tonight - skinner pulled Have read getting rid of Campbell by the oilers will cost a t least a first and a third overall pick Oilers need D plus a goalie
I mean the cost of eating Sean Monahan's 6.375M salary for one year was a 1st rounder.
The cost of eating Patrick Marleau's salary of 6.25M for one year was a 1st rounder.
The cost of acquiring Andrew Ladd's 5.5M AAV for two seasons was two 2nd's and a 3rd.
The cost of taking Shayne Gostisbehere's 4.5M AAV for two years was a 2nd rounder, and he was actually a useful player that gave the Coyotes decent results and landed them another pick when they traded him.
Campbell is pretty much a useless player (ie no one is acquiring him thinking he's the answer to their goaltending situation) with this season and three more years of 5M a season. So if it costs you a 1st rounder to eat 6M, I would say eating Campbell's salary is probably worth two 1st's or a 1st and a recent first round prospect, maybe even a bit more. Yeah, I'd love to get two 1st's, but that contract handicaps you in years you want to be competitive too, so it's a hard decision. Now if the Oilers were going to take back Brendan Gallagher in the deal, that's a different story. But otherwise, I don't see us being a partner to take on Campbell. The rumors are that the Oilers are looking at Allen and Monty (I've already detailed why Monty makes more sense for them given his contract) and that they're negotiating with a 3rd team to rid themselves of Campbell. Dreger and Lavoie have both speculated the Habs and Oilers may be working on a bigger, multi-player deal and Dans Les Coulisses has speculated David Savard could be a fit for Edmonton and that the teams might be waiting for him to get healthy. But given the Oilers free-fall they can't really wait. If they don't act now, it'll be too late. Would have to figure they make a move before the end of November if they want to save their season. It might already be done.

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Antti Raanta left Wednesday's game against the Edmonton Oilers after the first period. He was later ruled out for what the team said were precautionary reasons.

San Jose Sharks forward Kevin Labanc did not play Wednesday against the Seattle Kraken due to an upper-body injury. Sharks head coach David Quinn said Labanc suffered the injury when he was slew-footed by Vancouver Canucks winger Nils Hoglander on Monday. Quinn added Labanc is considered day-to-day.Hoglander was assessed a match penalty and later given a maximum fine(opens in a new tab) for the slew foot, which came late in the second period of the Canucks' 3-1 win. Labanc did play in the third period after the incident.

The Vancouver Canucks lost another defenceman just over a week after it was announced that Carson Soucy would miss the next 6-8 weeks. Mark Friedman left the contest after a scary-looking incident midway through the second period. Friedman lay motionless on the ice for a few moments before very gingerly getting to his feet. When he finally did get up, it appeared as if his eyebrow was split open, and he had blood on his visor. Suffice to say, he did not return to the game. After looking back at the incident, there’s question to whether this was incidental contact, or a dangerous play by Avs forward Valeri Nichushkin. Val Nichushkin blatantly crosschecks Mark Friedman in the face and drives him to the ice. No penalty called. Based on the way the game was called, it was a bit surprising that Nichushkin wasn’t handed a penalty. His teammate, Josh Manson, was given a five minute major and a game misconduct after cross-checking Brock Boeser in the face earlier in the second period. Zebras not doing what Zebras not doing. Another pathetic showing. 🙄

Bourgault + Campbell + 1st Monty + Gallagher Id certainly consider it - especially if my goaltending scouts felt like Campbell had a chance of at least being a 30-40game backup. He's fallen off a cliff but he did used to put up good numbers with the kings & early on with the leafs. Its possible he just needs the right system in front of him. He's never going to be your starter but if you can turn Gallagher's terrible contract into a goalie that gives you some decent games + a 1st + a top prospect like Bourgault.... id be listening for sure. If you felt you could run Primeau/Campbell for the next little bit, you can then flip Allen for something too.

If you felt you could run Primeau/Campbell for the next little bit, you can then flip Allen for something too. A few pitfalls with your proposal but I like your thinking; 1) Gallagher has a 6 team NMC but I doubt Edmonton is on his list. In any event, Gally should know he doesn't fit with the Habs rebuild and deserves a chance to win. It is quite likely that he could accept a trade to Deadmonton to play with more talent. I believe HuGo would be doing him a goodwill loyalty gesture by giving him a better chance to win vs our forecast of this year plus the remaining additional 3 years of his contract. 2) Gally has some leadership and roster player addition / utility attraction to the Oilers however, there is a money in, money out problem - Gally has a $6.5M cap hit for the next 3 years. Campbell has a $5M cap hit for this year and the next 3. That's a difference of $1.5M - The Oilers don't have that cap room to take on Gally less Campbell (who is a full reclamation project and little roster value). 3) The CAP monetary value just doesn't work - I can't see Oilers giving up Bourgault and a 1st effectively for Monty just to escape Campbell Now as far as our interest in Bourgault - he doesn't strike me as a play driver. Might be a little on the soft side for my liking. While Campbell is a bit of a show stopper for me, maybe taking on his contract is the price of buying a 1st round pick (especially if unprotected) plus a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I would give up David Savard (currently injured) plus Monty for Campbell, a first, a 2nd and one of Beau Akey (injured RHD prospect), or maybe even Dylan Holloway (another injured winger)

Arin Srinivasan reporting on Yahoo Sports that the NHL banned Marc-Andre Fleury from wearing an Indigenous themed mask honouring his family during the Wild's Native American Heritage night. There was no comment forthcoming from the NHL regarding the possibility that Connor Bedard may wear an Indigenous themed uniform in a future game.

After some recent indication that defenseman Alex Goligoski was healthy and ready to return to the Minnesota Wild lineup, the team has officially announced his activation off the LTIR. In order to make cap space to return Goligoski to the lineup, the team also assigned Vinni Lettieri (placed on waivers) and Dakota Mermis to their AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild. According to CapFriendly, with these moves, Minnesota has a projected cap space of $617K, which translates to roughly $806K in actual salary cap space. With only 21 players on the active roster, two of those being goaltenders, the Wild really only have the capability to bring up one league-minimum salary unless other changes are made.

San Jose Sharks defenseman Jan Rutta has been placed on the injured reserve while fellow defenseman Matt Benning has been activated off IR. Rutta left the second period of the Sharks game Wednesday night against the Seattle Kraken with an undisclosed injury and did not return. Very little is known about Rutta’s ailment at this time, but the 33-year-old did miss nearly a third of last season due to injury when he was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Rutta underwent core muscle surgery in the offseason before he was eventually dealt to the Sharks in August as part of the package that the Penguins put together to acquire reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson. In 19 games this season with the Sharks, Rutta has posted a single assist, 36 blocks, 10 hits and a -11 rating.

Chicago Sun-Times writer Ben Pope tweeted today that Chicago Blackhawks forward Corey Perry will not play again Saturday and that no further updates have been given. Perry missed practice after being a healthy scratch on Wednesday for what was deemed an ‘organizational decision.’ It appears he will remain a healthy scratch for the time being as the Blackhawks take on the Toronto Maple Leafs this afternoon. Perry has four goals and five assists in 16 games this season and has registered a -6.

The Buffalo News reporter Lance Lysowski tweeted today that Buffalo Sabres forward Zach Benson skated with the Sabres’ second power-play unit and he will play in his tenth NHL game of the season Saturday. Sportsnet later confirmed the news meaning that Benson will see the entry-level contract he signed for three seasons kick in immediately, and it can no longer slide or extend by a year. Benson is one of four players from the 2023 NHL entry draft who is playing in the NHL at the moment, and he has been productive thus far in nine games tallying a goal and four assists.
