Flames trade Zadorov to the Canuck’s for two draft picks A 5 th in 2024 and a 3 rd in 2026 It will be interesting to see if Hughes and Co can trade anyone and what they get for them
Assuming they stay healthy, I think Hughes will be able to deal one of his goalies (IMO more of a market for Monty than Allen though), Monahan, and Pearson. He can probably also swing trades for Anderson, Savard, Matheson, and Evans if he wants to get rid of them. He might want to keep them, he might not get the prices he wants, but I think he could absolve himself of them if he wanted to. Matheson should have good value. Monahan should have good value. And I think Savard would probably bring back a better return than Zadorov if we wait til the deadline and get teams who want to make a playoff run interested. The advantages Savard has are that he's a righty and he's won a Cup before. GMs overpay for playoff experience and Cup wins.
Probably take Sammy m off your list he just got a 3 yr contract extension . Unless Habs have a team in mind and this is all part of a big trade i don’t envision matheson being traded pearson and Evans I don’t think you get anything of quality back . I don’t even think any other team wants them Andersons value is dropping , that $5.5 m for anther 3 years is unattractive to me but I’m not a GM 😂🤣 Savard is this years Edmonson, we think we can a high pick for him but he probably won’t be moved at all Monohan is intriguing, he’s cheap and an UFA just my 0.02$

I would not sell Josh Anderson on the low value equation side. I have confidence that his game will pick up. I don't believe for a minute that he is this year's Armia, that he is giving solid effort despite being snake bitten on goals or finding the right creative centerman. My order of trade candidates would be Monahan, Savard, Armia (with salary retention) and possibly Harris. Like you I see little value for a contending team to pick up Pearson, Evans as a penalty killer.

Not saying I would sell on Anderson today. I would have sold on him a year ago. Matheson too. Allen three, while he was a pending UFA. Too late for all that. I've said all along, you can't sit on players who are not anticipated to be part of your window to win, and you want to sell while their value is high. At present, Anderson will likely sell low, but I think he's playing well enough that the goals will come back. This isn't a drop-off in level of play, it's a drop-off in production because of poor shooting, and that usually corrects itself. What's concerning is when a guy's level of play drops off and he stops getting chances and shot attempts, but that's not the case here. So I'd be patient and then I'd prepare to deal him when he goes on a hot streak. I think there will be value there at some point.
Allen will also have value given how many teams lack goaltending. Edmonton, New Jersey, and Carolina are three contenders already in a pickle. Others may join with injury or just want a 1B option nearer to the playoffs. I don't think we'll get a 1st rounder back, but we could get something of interest (2nd or 3rd rounder or a decent prospect). Might be higher if we take back salary in the form of a goalie coming the other way.
Monahan should have good value if he stays healthy. I'd expect a 1st rounder coming back there.
Savard we're not under pressure to deal, but again, I think there will be value there given his Cup pedigree and the fact he's a RHD. If we trade him, I'd expect at least a 2nd rounder, maybe a 1st or good prospect. Otherwise we sit tight.
I also expect something to give on the left side of the D. Struble has been excellent. There are too many guys there who deserve playing time. If it's not Matheson, then maybe it's Harris. Maybe it's Guhle in a blockbuster for someone like Zegras. Maybe it's Xhekaj going to Laval. Someone's got to go.

Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom left the team's practice on Monday with an apparent right-hand injury. TSN's Salim Valji reports Markstrom was struck by a shot in the non-protected part of the hand and was rushed off the ice. General manager Craig Conroy and goalie coach Jason LaBarbera went to the locker room to see him immediately after.

Through the first 20 games of the campaign, Kopitar had set the club record in games played, passed Luc Robitaille for second in points and hit the 400-goal mark, all the while solidifying the team's credentials as a viable Stanley Cup contender. With a chance to avenge one of their few regulation losses from opening night and pick up another memento to his historic career, Kopitar became the franchise leader in assists on Quinton Byfield's go-ahead goal, and the Kings beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 on Sunday.

So now we're 1/4 a way into the season & Ovechkin is on pace to not even break 20. His worst start to a season ever & he just looks done. I have only watched a handful of caps games but he just floats and then parks himself at the dot waiting for a one-timer. His shot is world class still so maybe this would work if he had better teammates but the overall quality around him as diminished a lot.
I am thinking his shot at Gretzky's record is in serious Jeopardy. He's only 10% less than Gretzky's totals but he's 38 and he's 67 away. Will he play till he's like 44?

I only saw one live Hab game last year and it was vs the Caps. What the camera doesn't show you is how little skating OV actually does in a game. He moves a couple strides one way or the other at the blueline, unless he actually has the puck. I was pretty surprised to see it.

He used to play a devastating north-south power game (with that patented cut across the middle), running right through anyone who dared get in his way but now he just seems to skate out, and wait. barely engaged in the play. If his production was still 40g a year the team might be ok with it but if its now going to take him 4 years to break the record, does the team go for that? Its going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

Former NHL head coach Jacques Martin is joining the Senators as a senior advisor to the coaching staff. The 71-year-old native of Saint-Pascal, Ontario will serve as a day-to-day resource to Senators’ head coach D.J. Smith and his staff according to team president Steve Staios. Martin for his part was happy to get back in the NHL, and especially in Ottawa.

Nashville Predators general manager Barry Trotz spoke candidly on veteran defenceman Tyson Barrie Tuesday, with the two sides appearing headed for a split. Trotz told 102.5 The Game Nashville(opens in a new tab) that he didn't like Barrie's response to being a healthy scratch Saturday against the New York Rangers, noting the 32-year-old blueliner has been unhappy with his role this season.
