Seventh round picks are absolutely useless so may as well not even consider those. I'd do DVO for Robertson straight up if that were even possible but i suspect they would want more. Kampf,,,,,pass. Dvorak did very well with Domi and Marner when they were in London, so I could see why Leafs might want him but would need cap relief to take him on. Kampf for another 2 years at $2.4M isn't a great return. Agree 7th round and even 5th and 6th round picks are futile chances and worthless. Robertson - another small forward in the RHP / Mesar / Farrell / Newhook - we have enough of those - Yup PASS!

Kampf,,,,,pass. yeah thats a really weird trade. Dvo + 4th for Robertson, Kampf & two 7ths. Id do Dvo for Robertson in a heartbeat. Dont see the leafs having any interest in this deal & I dont think Hughes would care for the 7th rounders. He seems quite happy to get rid of any picks after the 3rd round.

The Leafs have little cap room as Robertson is cheap. We either retain salary on DVO (last slot remaining which I doubt we do), or pick up some slug contract from the Laffs like Kampf

Lol Well , let’s see , there’s talk we need a RHD , and an energy forward , now a goalie ( or 2 ) , seems like we need help everywhere 🤣 But we only want to give up plugs like Dvo and Savard. The thing is, do we need better goaltending? sure. do we need better wingers and dmen and centres? sure. But I agree with Hickey that we also need to give the kids a chance to play. Hutson has made some brutal plays but we expect that. he's also made some genius offensive moves. Short of getting a Hasek or Roy, im not sure many goalies out there- certainly not those available - will help much right now. We are hanging out goalies out to dry most nights & the kind of elite netminder who can compensate for that most likely wont be available and its always a crap-shoot trading for goalies anyway.

Preds are putting Fabbro on waivers. RD 6.0 about 190lbs. Don't know much about him but is Hughes possibly interested? He's on a 1 year deal at 2.5

He's on a 1 year deal at 2.5 I know nothing of him but if he can’t help the last place Predators then he probably can’t help the 2nd last place Habs In hindsight maybe we should have kept kovasevic 😀 I think Jordan Harris is having difficulty becoming a regular as he’s been a healthy scratch in Columbus .

Fabbro is not a bad player he was a first rounder in his draft year I think he is just lost in the #'s game in Nashville. His contract ends at the end of the season and he is 2.5 million I think. He may help for this season as he is an RHD and we are still really thin on that side! he is also 26 years old so far from an old man it would be nice to get some of our D back on the sides they are comfortable!

The problem is we don't have enough spots at LHD to move guys back to their natural side. I don't love having Struble playing on his off-side, but is it really preferable for him to be playing in Laval instead?
The current situation is far from ideal for winning games today, but I think the strategy of finding playing time for young players to see which ones are part of our long-term core is the right one. That means we're going to have to endure some bad minutes from young players like Xhekaj, Struble, Barron, and Mailloux: each will figure it out or the team will eventually move on, but the playing time is necessary for them to grow and for the team to see what they have.

I am not 100% sure what the secret is going to be to develop these guy's but I do think we are playing too many rookies on D. Right now the team needs something to help it out of the funk just to get to where it is playing ok hockey if we could get our goals against down and steady up our Dcorps it would be good in the short term. The way I look at it we pick him up use him for a bit and move him at the deadline if he does not fit should be easy to do for a Dman with experience and no term.

1. They need a shake-up of some sorts, so this is a free way to do that. 2. Their organizational depth at RHD stinks.
3. Fabbro played his college hockey at Boston U, where Hughes has a lot of ties. His own son played there, as did Lane Hutson and Luke Tuch. Hughes will be able to get info on Fabbro if he wants it, and we know he likes players he's familiar with.

There are still some options here. Struble and Xhekaj are both waiver-exempt, so in theory they could go down to the AHL and they did that with Xhekaj last season too. Neither guy has shown me enough this year to tell me they wouldn't benefit from 10-15 games in the AHL, and that buys you some time. Injuries will happen too.
But past that, the ultimate solution is probably trading Matheson. I said many times last year that something had to give and that this team needed to consider trading one of Guhle or Matheson. In Guhle's case, it was because his value was high and he could have been a valuable trade chip to address RHD or C. In Matheson's case, it was because his value was high and I thought it was a good time to cash in on that while fixing your LHD logjam at the same time. Now in theory, the plan may be to trade Savard this season, so yet another option would be to dump Savard early and just keep Guhle and/or Xhekaj/Struble on the right. As I said, the team needs a bit of wake-up and doing something like this could be a jolt, one by adding a new player and two by potentially setting up trading a vet or sending a player to the AHL.

True on Laval, especially since this year they've apparently they've switched to playing the same hybrid system as in Montreal, unlike last year where I kind of questioned some of the value.
If the team is willing to trade Matheson, then that definitely changes things and would allow you to move Guhle back to the left.
If you're willing to trade Savard early, Fabbro doesn't really help clear up the LHD/RHD issues, but it would allow you to get assets for Savard without creating a bigger hole and gets you a bit younger (and extending Fabbro may be more realistic than Savard)
