The Seattle Kraken announced Friday they have recalled forward Shane Wright from the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the American Hockey League. In a corresponding move, the Seattle Kraken have reassigned forward Tye Kartye to the Coachella Valley Firebirds. |

For a team that's having goalie issues, this seems like a strange move unless it's a prelude to a trade.

The Toronto Maple Leafs recalled forward Pontus Holmberg from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, the team announced Saturday. Holmberg has appeared in seven games with the Leafs this season but has not recorded a point. He last played in the NHL on Nov. 4.

The Carolina Hurricanes placed veteran goalie Antti Raanta on waivers on Saturday. For a team that's having goalie issues, this seems like a strange move unless it's a prelude to a trade. Raanta has not been very good , so maybe Canes want better depth. Other than their draft picks there isn’t much I like in their pool. Maybe Scott Morriw but there two Russians Perevalov and Gleb Trikozov - hard to get any info on their progression with the KHL in decline. Bradley Nadeau is another small forward winger in the mold of a Newhook, Farrell, Mesar, Kidney, RHP, Simoneau and that’s a lot of duplication |

Goaltender Pheonix Copley has been placed on the long-term injured reserve list by the Los Angeles Kings. Copley suffered a lower-body injury during Friday's practice. He did not make the road trip to Seattle for Saturday's game as the Kings defeated the Kraken 3-2 in a shootout.
Kings probably not in a hurry to look elsewhere for a goalie replacement.

Calgary Flames goaltender Jacob Markstrom left the team's practice on Monday with an apparent right-hand injury. TSN's Salim Valji reports Markstrom was struck by a shot in the non-protected part of the hand and was rushed off the ice. General manager Craig Conroy and goalie coach Jason LaBarbera went to the locker room to see him immediately after. The Calgary Flames are breathing a sigh of relief after it was announced starting goalie Jacob Markstrom is week to week with a fractured finger that doesn’t require surgery. Calgary Flames starting goalie Jacob Markstrom was removed from the team's injured reserve on Sunday and placed on the active roster. The 33-year-old netminder has been out since Dec. 2 with a finger injury. He was placed on the injured reserve list a week ago and originally labelled as week-to-week. |

So now we're 1/4 a way into the season & Ovechkin is on pace to not even break 20. His worst start to a season ever & he just looks done. I have only watched a handful of caps games but he just floats and then parks himself at the dot waiting for a one-timer. His shot is world class still so maybe this would work if he had better teammates but the overall quality around him as diminished a lot. I am thinking his shot at Gretzky's record is in serious Jeopardy. He's only 10% less than Gretzky's totals but he's 38 and he's 67 away. Will he play till he's like 44? A few weeks later & Ovy is still stuck at 5 goals. 28 games. thats a 14 goal pace... yikes. Has father time finally caught up with him? |
