Appears the Boston bruins are moving on and replacing jack Edwards , the television play by play guy . Don't think so - is just a scheduled Christmas break for him (despite having all summer). I will be shocked if his bias is canned

Next step - replace Marchand. That's the guy. The puck has usually changed hands 3 times before he mentions the player who has it currently. Slower than molasses in snow.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Mark Giordano took morning skate on Thursday in Buffalo, but will not play until after the Christmas break, coach Sheldon Keefe told reporters. The 40-year-old Giordano broke a finger on Nov. 28 against the Florida Panthers.

It is hard to put into words just how poor of a season Jonathan Huberdeau is having for the Calgary Flames. The 30-year-old has just four goals and 15 points through 32 games, both of which rank 11th among his teammates. He also trails Nazem Kadri for the most giveaways by forwards and owns a team-worst plus/minus of -14. The next lowest among active roster players is Dillon Dube at -7. The downfall of someone who was considered to be an elite NHLer just two seasons ago is unexplainable. While some were concerned about how his eight-year, $84 million extension would hold up, no one imagined it would become the league’s worst contract just 32 games into existence. Now pointless in nine straight, the Flames have no choice but to put Huberdeau up in the press box for a game or two. It will undoubtedly embarrass the former 115-point scorer, but if he does his best to keep a positive attitude, it could prove to work as a reset and help get his game back on track. At this point, head coach Ryan Huska has no other option. Can you imagine??? If the Habs got him and signed him to that horrible contract? And the guy who did it gets to slide over to the Maple Leafs. Ridiculous.

In all honesty though, I don't think anyone saw this decline coming.

When he was signed & faltered a bit his first year I remember someone proposing "Gallagher for Huberdeau straight up" and i think at the time the flames would have laughed and hung up. Now - as bad as gallaghers contract is, i think they'd throw in a couple of first rounders!!

Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson left Thursday’s game against the Calgary Flames after sustaining an injury from a collision with Flames defenceman MacKenzie Weegar. The incident happened mid-way through the third, as Carlsson collided with Weegar along the boards in front of the penalty box. Weegar fell on Carlsson, who appeared to injure his knee. That could hurt. Bright young prospect.

In all honesty though, I don't think anyone saw this decline coming. I think no one predicted he would decline as fast as he did, but I wouldn't have gone anywhere near the contract Calgary signed him to. In general, I don't like the idea of offering longterm contracts to players in their 30s or contracts that take players through their 30s. I wouldn't have given Gallagher the contract he did. I wouldn't have given Huberdeau his contract. Grant it, there are a few players who have excelled in their 30s but more often than not, players fall off a cliff pretty fast between 30-35. Look at some our recent players to whom that happened... Gomez, Hamrlik, Petry, Markov, Plekanec, Gallagher, Kaberle, etc. Look at a lot of the big name UFAs who sign at age 28 or 29 or 30. How many of those really work out? So in that regard, it was predictable that he was at risk of this happening sooner rather than later.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Noah Chadwick to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 18-year-old from Saskatoon has 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) in 30 games with the Western Hockey League's Lethbridge Hurricanes this season.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights will be without goalies Adin Hill and Logan Thompson for Thursday night’s game at the Tampa Bay Lightning. Thompson (10-5-3, 2.71 goals-against average) left Tuesday night’s 6-3 loss at Carolina early in the third period with an upper-body injury.Hill (10-2-2, 1.93 GAA) missed the first seven games in December with a lower-body injury and lasted just 6:25 in his return against Ottawa on Dec. 17. Jiri Patera made his second appearance this season in relief of Thompson on Tuesday. Isaiah Saville was recalled from Henderson of the AHL. “We’ve got some untested goaltenders going in there, we’ve got play well in front of them,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. “For us, every team goes through different parts of the year where you get tested. That’s what we’re doing right now.” Patera has a 3-0-0 record and a 2.70 goals-against average in four career NHL games. Saville has not appeared in an NHL game. “I will say this, actually, we’re probably the only team that’s dressing a tandem in the NHL with undefeated goaltenders.” Cassidy said. “That’s the positive, right?" Here's a team that seems to get away without a #1 goalie. Uncanny how the Knights can be so successful with a continuous run of 2nd & 3rd string goalies!

No doubt the contract was going to be bad eventually and you're absolutely right, those deals rarely age well, but this drop in production is rather special IMO. We're not really talking about guys in their thirties, Huberdeau just turned 29 and was an above PPG player for 4 straight seasons before having that 115-point campaign right before the trade, so I think it's not completely unreasonable to expect him to remain productive for at least another 3-4 seasons before the usual drop off sets in around age 31-32. That's not what happened here though, it's like he's never arrived in Calgary and is a completely different player, i.e. the deal turned out to be a total disaster right from the start and the Flames aren't even close to where they thought they'd be when they got Huberdeau, Weegar, and Kadri.
