After goaltender Ilya Samsonov cleared Sunday, the Maple Leafs have recalled goaltender Dennis Hildeby from the AHL's Toronto Marlies. It's a big risk, but the Leafs don't have too many options. Teams have gotten lucky before with rookie goalies, but the Leafs just don't seem to be that lucky a team lately.

The Sabres are 14-18-4 on the year and have been one of the few teams to carry three goaltenders for most, if not all of the season. Turns out there's brewing frustration in the Sabres crease. There's growing speculation that goaltender Eric Comrie is not happy with the lack of playing time because of the crowded crease and as a pending free-agent, he's quickly becoming a trade candidate for the Sabres. Probably a lower risk options for teams seeking a goalie. Finish the season and then done Hope he’s happy now , reports are he was waived . Eric Comrie (BUF) has cleared waivers.

www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/nhl/maple-leafs-made-uninspired-attempt-to-acquire-a-goalie-in-trade/ar-AA1mmRCK?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=d9018c0a42ff4f89b308b6e05a3aaa64&eiAmidst Ilya Samsonov’s struggles, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been exploring the goalie market. However, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on the latest 32 Thoughts podcast, Toronto’s uninspired attempt to make a trade involved offering a late-round pick, potentially a sixth-rounder, in hopes of securing immediate assistance. Unsurprisingly, other teams rejected the offer, expressing a desire for a more substantial return. Friedman suggests that teams were looking for prospects, even for lower-tier goaltending options, rather than giving up solid goalies for what the Maple Leafs were proposing. This situation could indicate either the confidence these teams have in the demand for their goaltending assets is high or there was a misunderstanding by GM Brad Treliving about the market dynamics and the necessary value for acquiring a quality netminder. It is not clear which teams Treliving was targeting or what goaltender he was kicking tires on. Perhaps this uninspired attempt to make a trade shouldn’t be all that surprising. In his Saturday Headlines segment on Hockey Night in Canada, Friedman shared that the Leafs are perceived across the league as not particularly “enthusiastic” about making a goalie trade. Awaiting Joseph Woll’s expected return in approximately a month, it seems Treliving is actively monitoring the market but believes the team has its own solution. The Maple Leafs Went With Hildeby When Goalie Trade Market Came Up Empty Evidently dissatisfied with the available options, GM Brad Treliving recalled prospect Dennis Hildeby on Monday. He has joined the team and will likely get a start over one of the next two nights. The Maple Leafs take on the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday and then travel to Anaheim to take on the Ducks Wednesday. However, Hildeby’s stay is likely a short-term solution given his lack of experience and a desire by the team to keep him in the AHL for more seasoning.

Saturday's loss to the Jets was a costly one for the Wild, as both Kirill Kaprizov and Filip Gustavsson left the game with injuries. Kaprizov was cross-checked to the back twice, while Gustavsson left with a lower-body injury. Filip Gustavsson has been placed on IR and will miss a couple of weeks after sustaining a lower-body injury on Saturday against Winnipeg. This makes MAF their starter for the immediate future.

I think no one predicted he would decline as fast as he did, but I wouldn't have gone anywhere near the contract Calgary signed him to. In general, I don't like the idea of offering longterm contracts to players in their 30s or contracts that take players through their 30s. I wouldn't have given Gallagher the contract he did. I wouldn't have given Huberdeau his contract. Grant it, there are a few players who have excelled in their 30s but more often than not, players fall off a cliff pretty fast between 30-35. Look at some our recent players to whom that happened... Gomez, Hamrlik, Petry, Markov, Plekanec, Gallagher, Kaberle, etc. Look at a lot of the big name UFAs who sign at age 28 or 29 or 30. How many of those really work out? So in that regard, it was predictable that he was at risk of this happening sooner rather than later. No doubt the contract was going to be bad eventually and you're absolutely right, those deals rarely age well, but this drop in production is rather special IMO. We're not really talking about guys in their thirties, Huberdeau just turned 29 and was an above PPG player for 4 straight seasons before having that 115-point campaign right before the trade, so I think it's not completely unreasonable to expect him to remain productive for at least another 3-4 seasons before the usual drop off sets in around age 31-32. That's not what happened here though, it's like he's never arrived in Calgary and is a completely different player, i.e. the deal turned out to be a total disaster right from the start and the Flames aren't even close to where they thought they'd be when they got Huberdeau, Weegar, and Kadri. youtu.be/6849YTwl0JQ
