That is the kind of trade we need to make. Good trade for both teams! Agree, but Gauthier likely would have cost us Guhle... would it have been worth it? no guarantee he would sign? Maybe he goes the free agent college route - bypasses the entry level contract which he might believe is beneath him , and then signs as a free agent?

On IG Danny briere and Keith Jones are saying that the kid did not want to be a Flyer. The kids agents would not even talk to the flyers

Sounds odd. Not sure what happened behind the scenes but not wanting to play for the Flyers and welcoming a trade to... Anaheim instead? The undisputed global hotbed of hockey culture.
Swinging a deal for Gauthier using one of our dmen would have been amazing, but it's probably safe to assume that he didn't want to come to Montreal anyway. There are rumors circulating on Twitter/X that he's not interested in playing for a Canadian team either, no idea how substantiated they are.

I like Gauthier's confidence in betting on himself and doing what he thinks is best for him. Hopefully it ends well for everyone.
When Lindros refused to go Quebec and ended up in Philadelphia the winners might have been the Nordiques who went on to win two Cups, albeit in Colorado, with the players they got in the trade and the Rangers who won a Cup with the players they offered for Lindros that an arbitrator rejected. Philadelphia is still waiting for their Lindros Cup.

If he didnt want to play in Canada because of taxes, then he's going to be in for a shock when he sees the 3 california teams pay as much as the Canadian teams...

Just amazes me how brave these little jerks are behind a keyboard. I'll bet 99.999% of them wouldn't have the balls to say that to his face. Social media has really changed the world.

New Jersey Devils All-Star Jack Hughes, injured in Friday's 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks, will not play Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks in Newark. New Jersey Devils centre Jack Hughes is considered week-to-week with an upper-body injury, head coach Lindy Ruff announced Tuesday. The timeline puts Hughes availability for the NHL All-Star Game, which he was named to last week, in question.

By all accounts, Gauthier and his agent basically ghosted the Flyers and flat out ignored all attempts of communication. Looks like they even traveled to the WJC to meet with him in person but the kid reportedly wasn't interested in meething with them. I realize we're living in a bit of a strange world these days but if all that truly is about weather, the kid needs to get his head checked out. I mean sure, it's a possibility, but why not come out and at least have the respect towards the organization that draft you and tell them? Some players prefer to play in a certain city/market/region, it happens and that's totally fine. But refusing to communicate with the organization that drafted you is a pretty strong signal to send.

That is the kind of trade we need to make. Good trade for both teams! Agree, but Gauthier likely would have cost us Guhle... would it have been worth it? That's why they pay HUGO the big bucks. You have to give to get. Would I want to? I think we need to look at the big picture and not let our feelings get in the way. In this particular situation knowing what we have coming up the LD pipeline, I would probably do that trade or a similar type trade. When the previous regime traded Segachev, they traded our only LD prospect. Here, if you listen to everyone and their brother, the Habs are oozing LD. It's up to HUGO to make the big decision. But I think we can all agree that LD is our strength and we have genuine needs elsewhere. When the Habs were offered all the great trades at the last draft, the one that I was most interested in was Nashvilles. Askarov and their pick. Nashville wanted to make a splash and I think we could have gotten more. Missed opportunity I say. So for me? @ the end of the day, I move Ghule for a top line forward that fits our window (period)

Corey Perry is now eligible to sign with any National Hockey League team as a free agent after having his contract terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 30, reports TSN's Chris Johnston. Connor Bedard sustained an undisclosed injury for the Chicago Blackhawks in the first period of a 4-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on Friday. Bedard was injured after taking a hit from Devils defenseman Brendan Smith at 10:42. Bedard crossed into the offensive zone and was checked by Smith in the slot. He left the ice with his hand at his mouth. Blackhawks center Connor Bedard is expected to miss six to eight weeks after he had surgery to repair his fractured jaw. The team announced the operation and timeline for the 18-year-old rookie on Wednesday. It means he will miss the Feb. 3 NHL All-Star Game in Toronto — dealing a blow to the league.

The Colorado Avalanche have placed forward Chris Wagner on waivers. This waiver placement indicates that Wagner is ready to get his season started. The veteran winger has been recovering from a ruptured Achilles that he suffered before the start of the 2023-24 campaign. Linus Ullmark sustained a lower-body injury at 2:40 of overtime for the Boston Bruins in their 4-3 loss to the Arizona Coyotes at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona, on Tuesday. The injury occurred when Ullmark stretched in an attempt to make a glove save on Coyotes forward Logan Cooley’s wrist shot from the slot, which sailed over the crossbar. Ullmark, who made 32 saves prior to the injury, had to be helped off the ice by two teammates. Jeremy Swayman then allowed a goal on the first shot he faced, scored by Arizona forward Nick Schmaltz at 4:04 of overtime.
