The New York Rangers assigned winger Brennan Othmann to AHL Hartford. The Rangers are expected to replace Othmann’s spot on the active roster with a corresponding recall from Hartford later today. Othmann, 21, was the Rangers’ 16th overall pick in the 2021 draft and just completed his first NHL stint. Signed to his entry-level deal shortly after the 2021 draft in August, his contract slid for two seasons because the Rangers returned him to the OHL’s Flint Firebirds to begin the 2021-22 and 2022-23 campaigns. Now that he’s old enough for a full-time AHL assignment under the NHL-CHL transfer agreement, Othmann started his professional career in earnest last fall. He’s impressed thus far with Hartford, recording nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 28 games, ranking fourth on the team in each metric.

Linus Ullmark sustained a lower-body injury at 2:40 of overtime for the Boston Bruins in their 4-3 loss to the Arizona Coyotes at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona, on Tuesday. The injury occurred when Ullmark stretched in an attempt to make a glove save on Coyotes forward Logan Cooley’s wrist shot from the slot, which sailed over the crossbar. Ullmark, who made 32 saves prior to the injury, had to be helped off the ice by two teammates. Jeremy Swayman then allowed a goal on the first shot he faced, scored by Arizona forward Nick Schmaltz at 4:04 of overtime. The Boston Bruins elevated netminder Brandon Bussi from AHL Providence on an emergency basis. Head coach Jim Montgomery said that 2023 Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark is day-to-day with a lower-body injury and will not play Thursday night against the Golden Knights, so Bussi will back up Ullmark’s tandem partner, Jeremy Swayman. |

The Chicago Blackhawks announced that veteran forward Nick Foligno has signed a contract extension. The contract appears to be worth $4.5 million a year which kicks in next year. The two-year deal will expire at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. This deal is to show the appreciation of Foligno’s impact on the current Blackhawks roster that needs leadership.

Have to figure LA Kings are going to be between a rock and a hard place. They have a few tough games before the all star break and have gone 2-4-4 with all 4 of those OT games as losses. Losing Copley has to hurt, and they play Canes, Dallas, Preds and Rangers in their next 4 games, and have watched Division rivals Edmonton go 10-0, and Seattle go 9-0-1. We know Bergevin likes his big D-men like Savard but I don't think that is the move with LA having Doughty, Roy, Spence and the upcoming Brandt Clarke.
Kings have no goalie signed for 2023-24 so I suspect Allen could be in play, but will HuGo retain salary to make it more attractive. Kings don't have much in terms of trade chips beyond their first round pick (don't see them giving up Brandt Clarke), and prospects Alex Turcotte, or RW Koehn Ziemmer - the latter has some interest to me.
LA is a team worth monitoring.

Golden Knights forward Jack Eichel is out week-to-week after undergoing lower-body surgery, the team announced on Tuesday. The former second-overall pick by the Sabres in 2015 has tallied 19 goals and 25 assists in 42 games this season.
