With Reeves in Toronto stating yesterday that he has been fine to play for a few weeks now, should the NHL not be looking into this? It would seem that this is circumventing the salary cap rules - it seems to me that back when Shea Weber was on LTIR the league looked into it to make sure that he actually could not play. The difference though is that this is Toronto so...

The New Jersey Devils and general manager Tom Fitzgerald have agreed to a multi-year extension, reports TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger. Fitzgerald will also be promoted to president of hockey operations in addition to his GM title.

Corey Perry is now eligible to sign with any National Hockey League team as a free agent after having his contract terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 30, reports TSN's Chris Johnston. Johnston adds that Perry would need to sign by the March 8 trade deadline in order to be eligible for this year's playoffs. Confirmed by current NBC Sports Chicago broadcaster John Scott that Corey Perry “made a mistake in Columbus one night, drank too much and made a pass at a staff member who worked at NBC”. If that’s all Perry did then it’s not a big deal and nobody should be concerned.

It may be a big deal and a concern for whomever was involved and Perry's family if that was what happened. Given that it was a NHL related incident all we may assume is that no dead bodies were found at the scene and I'm not sure we can even assume that any more.

NJ has announced Mike Mcleod and Cal Foote have been granted indefinite leaves as well, so there you have your 5 guys who were part of WJC (Hart, Formenton, Dube, Mcleod, and Foote). 3 other non-WJC players also involved, with no names yet. Even if they get off legally (which is to be determined), have to figure the NHL will suspend them regardless.

I actually know (not very well), the guy at the bar who as a sponsor representative, plyed them with underage drinks. His name was redacted in the globe and mail article. I wonder if he will be charged or is just a witness.

Maillioux was suspended for how long and his actually sexual act was cosensual, as was him taking a photo - it was the distribution of that photo that was not allowed. I would assume some of these guys may have played their last pro games.

Maillioux was suspended for how long and his actually sexual act was cosensual, as was him taking a photo - it was the distribution of that photo that was not allowed. I would assume some of these guys may have played their last pro games. I mean they could well just end up in jail for rape. I don't know the details of the allegations, but I don't think that's off the table. I'd wonder if Formenton was Player 1, given that he was essentially dismissed by the Sens and ignored by the rest of the league. But if the others were either directly involved or complicit and in the room, it could go badly for them too. At best, they're probably on leave for the rest of the season while this gets worked out. At worst, they're done for their careers +/- getting jail time. Will wait to see what emerges in terms of information over time, but at the very least, hockey players aren't being granted immunity for their fame. It sounds like Hockey Canada and the players were all too happy to try and sweep this under the rug, and it took some quality investigative reporting to bring this to light, otherwise there would never have been a resolution.
I'll also point out that I hope the media judges the other organizations as harshly as it judged Montreal. I'm not convinced nor thrilled that we drafted Mailloux, but as you said, what's coming out about the WJC 2018 team sounds even worse. The Sens seem to have done the right thing by parting ways with Formenton. But the other three teams have held onto their players despite seemingly knowing something was up. And while it's true that those players are innocent until proven guilty, those teams had to have known what the allegations were. I'm especially disappointed by Calgary, which phrased Dube's leave as one for his own personal mental health. While Dube may well have his own demons to deal with, giving the impression that Dube is the victim here does a disservice to the victim of this incident as well as to those with mental illness who really do need help for those reasons.

John Scott is back tracking on his rumourmongering comments about the Corey Perry incident and admitting he spoke "falsely". Mom used to call that lying. He will be lucky to maintain his marginal connection to NBC.

The Calgary Flames placed centre Adam Ruzicka and defenceman Nick Desimone on waivers on Wednesday. Ruzicka, a big 6'4" warm body Slovakian center. Can we use? if he falls to us?

Nick Bonino will be placed on waivers by the Rangers on Thursday. Bonino, who did not practice Thursday, signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Rangers on July 1. He has five points (one goal, four assists) in 45 games this season.
