Looks like Brad trevling is going to let T J Brodie walk as an UFA for the second time in 4 years . He let him walk when he was with Calgary and rumours are heβs going to let him walk as a leaf now

He let him walk when he was with Calgary and rumours are heβs going to let him walk as a leaf now I feel like that team is going to get a lot worse under treliving. Matthews and Nylander both have new deals kick in this summer so their cap hit goes up like $6m or something, without even adding players. Guys who were important this season (Brodie, Domi, Bertuzzi) as secondary players will likely be allowed to walk if they dont take sweetheart deals and that puts even more pressure on the big 5 to score. It will work in the regular season most likely but once again, Neutralizing one line (Tavares is not longer anywhere near as effective as he once was) wont be a huge task. Glorious to watch & completely predictable when you had an old-school GM like Treliving inherit an already bloated roster.

Tampa bay lightning reacquire D man Ryan McDonough

Tampa bay lightning reacquire D man Ryan McDonough Doesn't make much sense to me. They gave up a 2025 2nd rounder to acquire an older D man who is still making 6.75M for another two years. I mean Tampa is stuck in no man's land right now... not quite good enough to win but nothing left in the cupboard going forward, so they've kind of decided to remain stuck in the middle, it seems. I wonder what this means for Stamkos, with more cap hit being eaten by other players... does he make it to free agency?

They are good enough to just make the playoffs which, usually, means they keep their job 1 year longer. Start the rebuild and - in many organizations - you lose your job. In TB's case, they likely should have started selling older assets right after that last cup win. They would have been able to continue to build around their prime players but now some of these guys are 30, 33, 35... I dont see them winning with this roster though & retooling right after a cup win is a tough move for any GM tbh. Also, TB doesnt have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th round pick in this year's draft! (they do have 3 in the 7th though, lol) They dont have a 1st next year (2025) either but have 4 in the 7th round? (what?) 2026 they have a full compliment of picks.

TB - have to figure Stamkos is going free agency unless they unload another cap room player. Understandable why McDonagh would waive his NMC - TB much better competitive over reset / rebuild Preds and he has familiarity with TB coaching staff. TB stuck in reset / rebuild. Bolts have $5M in cap room to replace 3 forwards, 1 D, nothing in their prospect pool and a host of long term contracts with NTC / NMC clauses impeding trade ability. GM Brisebois will have to dangle someone. 2. Bigger question on Nashville - they have almost $12M in dead cap $ after Duchene buyout. I don't believe they have a top 6 that could compete as well. With $26M of cap room to replace 3-4 forwards, 3D and a back-up goalie. I have to assume that Saros at $5M is getting traded (a lot of speculation on Marner). Nashville like Minnesota is going to need some cheaper "fill" players to complete their roster. Not much in their prospect pool coming up. LHD Tanner Molendyk could be a year away TBD. Maybe one of forwards Kemell or Schaefer make the jump. Their 22nd overall pick could be in play vs. trading down / up but that's not an earth shattering move for Habs to offer pick #26 to move to #22. Maybe one of the preds 2nd round picks could be in play but those are also pretty late at #53, 55, #59 for one of our assets.

Brisebois today said the Lightning are negotiating with Stamkos and "still have cap space to sign him." As noted, there's about 5M in cap left there with 10 forwards and 6 D signed, so even if you were to add 3 minimum wage players, that only leaves a bit under 3M left to sign Stamkos. Not sure what this "cap space" is. Either Tampa will need to play with empty roster spots OR stick someone on LTIR (as they have been known to do) OR trade someone else. But who are they trading? It would seem a bit odd to trade for McDonagh and then turn around and trade a better D man like Sergachev or Hedman. Are they dumping Vasilevskiy? Because they weren't great without him. It also wouldn't make sense to trade Kucherov or Point, who are both more valuable assets than Stamkos, or Hagel or Cirelli, who are valuable and younger. So there isn't much left to maneuver with here. I know Stamkos has said he wants to stay in Tampa and Tampa has said they want to keep him, but the money looks tight there. If Stamkos makes it to free agency, there seems to be room for a team to swoop in with a much better offer, and I'll say it again, but Stamkos considered Montreal before, and he's still friends with MSL and Lecavalier. There's some logic to his coming here... 3 years, 6.5M AAV? Is that something both parties would be interested in? If he's available, I think he's a better option than Marchessault, and I'll reiterate that I think Hughes wants to make a splash to improve his team this year if he can do it without mortgaging the future.

I would be fine with a move like that he is a good player with flashes to his former self from time to time he could really help our team take a step forward.

Kevin Bieksa on HNIC is fantastic... last night, he talked about the Edmonton media and said he personally refers to them as the "Edmonton Meat, because they're raw, dead, and dumb."
LOL. The current Oilers media is made up of over-the-top homers who have no reasonable concept of the NHL. They have dumb suggestions about everything, led by Jim Matheson and Mark Spector. So good on Bieksa for calling that group out.
