Kevin Bieksa on HNIC is fantastic... last night, he talked about the Edmonton media and said he personally refers to them as the "Edmonton Meat, because they're raw, dead, and dumb." LOL. The current Oilers media is made up of over-the-top homers who have no reasonable concept of the NHL. They have dumb suggestions about everything, led by Jim Matheson and Mark Spector. So good on Bieksa for calling that group out. kevin bieksa should be a head coach in the NHL. imo At very least an assistant. Its tough to say exactly who will be a good coach until they've been in charge but i could see him as a great assistant like Gallant or Muller - the sort of go-between from the players and the HC. Wonder how he'd look running our PP

Today on nhlheadlines IG Frank Seravelli believes the Oilers will sign McDavid , Draisaitl and Bouchard to extensions this summer If you think the Leafs have too much $$$ tied up in four players , he projects the Oilers will tie up $40 m in three players π³π€¦π»ββοΈ It makes sense to throw max money at McDavid. Past that, I think you have to do some thinking if you're Edmonton. Draisaitl is obviously a top player in the league and would be worth big money too, especially for a win-now team like Edmonton. That said, I think you also need to consider what is available via trade. As a GM in this league, you can't get bogged down by what has been, you need to think of what will be. Is Draisaitl at 13-14M for the next 8 year the best move you can make? What happens if another team offers you a combination of assets that could work for you too? For example, let's say Ottawa offers Brady Tkachuk, Sanderson, and the #7 pick... that gives you a forward asset, who grant it, is nowhere near Draisaitl but is still a good top 6 piece, along with a D man who could be a top-pairing guy for you for 8 years and a top pick. It saves you money, it lengthens your window while still giving you pieces you can win with now, and it fills multiple holes. Ottawa meanwhile, wants to make a splash to change the culture and get into the post-season, and Tkachuk has been rumored to be on the block, so maybe this is something they do to legitimize their franchise, even if there's longterm risk in what you've given up.
Likewise, Bouchard has played well for them, but how much of his success would be replicated if he didn't have McDavid and Draisaitl? 35 of his 82 points came on the world-class PP. How much of his success is because he's been stabilized by playing with Ekholm? is he a better D man this year because of natural progression or because he's done well since getting his current partner? I do think Bouchard is a good NHL D man. But I think Edmonton also needs to be careful about locking him in and paying him as if he's the only one responsible for his season. If I were the Oilers, I'd consider doing something like 7.5M a season, but I'm not paying him 9-10M, especially when I'm already saddled with one bad contract on my blue line for Nurse.

Apparently the NJ Devils have acquired goalie Jacob Markstrom from Calgary
I guess theres going to be no improvement to the Jake Allen trade with the β games played β stipulation

Barclay goodrow 31 yrs of age placed on waivers by NYR Goodrow claimed by the Sharks A good move for that team - he will get some ice time and be out of the spotlight Pretty good for an undrafted player.

So we can put the PLD to Montreal rumours to rest π€£

Definitely surprising but value is about what i expected. PLD is, frankly, a negative value & I think the only reason LA took Keumper was salary (DC is 3 more years at $5.25m, PLD is 7 more years at $8.5). We could have offered Gallagher or Anderson - either of whom would be a better return than Keumper but I suspect the only way Hughes would have been if LA retained salary which they likely did not want to do.

Honestly though, i dont think anyone actually thought we'd get him but there was a path that made some sense if LA wanted to retain salary, or better yet if they had bought him out & we could have signed him to a small, short contract.

Soon to be 26 year old , on his 4 th NHL team in 7 seasons , making $8.5 m a year His best season was 63 points So heβs a. 60 to 70 point player
I dunno is that really worth $8.5 m a year

RFA sizeable 6-2 Centre Ty Dellandrea to the sharks for a 2025 4th rounder. Surprised he went so cheap and based on his performance last year his bridge contract will likely be in the $1.5m and less range. Another underperforming 2018 (KK draft), the 13th overall pick just hasnβt shown much trajectory. Now he could have fit our Centre depth needs and crowded Suzuki, Dvorak , Newhook / Dach, Evans and the upcoming Beck as a cheap solution. I have to think HuGo have better targets to fill our Centre need if they turned this reclamation project down.

Washington is banking on the idea he can be more than he has shown. but i agree with you: after 500+ nhl games, playing on lines with guys like Panarin, Wheeler, Scheifele, Connor, i think what you see is what you'll get with Dubois. This is not a guy who has not been given chances or who is on the cusp of a breakout. I think the thing is: he has the skills to be elite, but either his hockey IQ doesnt match it, or his desire is just not there. Id be shocked if he turned into anything special in Washington but very very occassionally guys see this sort of thing as a wakup call & suddenly put it all together. I think this may be more about trying to bring in a centre that gives ovechkin a better chance to break gretzky's record during his current contract because at times last year he looked done & didnt really have any quality centres to help him.
